Prune Cake

Recipe from Doris Durham

2 c. sugar

1 c. Wesson oil

3 eggs

1 c. prunes, chopped and cooked

1 c. buttermilk

2 c. plain flour

2 t. soda

½ t. salt

1 t. allspice

1 t. cloves

1 t. cinnamon

½ t. nutmeg

1 c. black walnuts

1 t. vanilla

 

 

 

Sauce:

1 c. sugar

½ t. soda

1 T. syrup (white)

½ c. buttermilk

1 stick margarine

 

Melt ingredients together in a saucepan over low heat, till sugar is dissolved.

 

There weren’t any baking directions with this recipe.  Grandma makes it as a sheet cake.  I know she uses baby food for the prunes.  Pour the sauce over the cake after it is baked.
